Blood Pressure
Definition:
Blood pressure is a recording used to look at the pressure of the blood on the walls of the blood vessels.
Amplitude (mmHg):
Normal blood pressure for adults is 120/80; however, systolic (1st number) can range from 90-140 and diastolic (2nd number) can range from 60-90 and still be considered normal
Typical Applications:
Blood pressure measurements are important in medicine because they are indicative of cardiovascular diseases. Generally, the risk of cardiovascular disease increases progressively above 115/75 mmHg.
Typical BioRadio Configuration:
- When using a blood pressure cuff, make sure you are set to Advanced View when programming your BioRadio
- Coupling: DC
- Range: ±18 mV
Typical Setup:
Step 1:
Zero the blood pressure sensor
Step 2:
Place the blood pressure cuff on the subject’s upper arm.
Step 3:
Make sure the cuff is secure, but not too tight.
Step 4:
Advise the subject to remain as relaxed as they can during the data collection.
Common Questions:
Q: Why am I obtaining variable readings with the blood pressure sensor?
A:
You need to zero the blood pressure sensor. Failure to do so could result in erroneous data. See Typical Setup for information about how to optimize your measurements.
